Welcome, Float Captain! This guide covers everything you need to lead your shoebox float confidently and keep the parade fun, safe, and creative for everyone.
1) What Is a Float Captain?
The Float Captain is the designated leader for each shoebox float entry.
- Check in your float
- Follow parade rules and staff directions
- Represent your group during lineup and the parade
- Toss throws safely and responsibly
2) Check-In & Arrival
- Arrive by the official check-in time in your confirmation email
- Confirm registration
- Receive lineup instructions
- Ask last-minute questions
- Bring your completed shoebox float
Note: Late arrivals may miss lineup placement.
3) Float Captain Attire
- Wear whatever you want — costumes, themed outfits, glam looks, full holiday chaos
- Optional: parade sash, decorated shoes, decorated hat or headpiece
- Rule: Keep it parade-appropriate and family-friendly
4) Shoebox Float Requirements
- Base: One standard shoebox
- Theme: Must match the official parade theme
- Materials: Lightweight only
- Design: Stable, easy to carry, and safe
5) Throws Rules (Very Important)
All throws must be handmade, lightweight, and safe to catch.
- Handcrafted beads or necklaces
- Decorated coins or doubloons
- Fabric or ribbon flowers
- Homemade masks or costume accessories
6) After Party
Stay for entertainment, drinks, and post-parade festivities. Winners and photos may be shared online.
